Day 1
Transfer to Wasai Puerto Maldonado Hotel | Cachuela Center
Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed at the airport and transferred to WASAI Maldonado Hotel, nestled on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and settle into your comfortable riverside room. Before lunch, we’ll take a short walk to explore the surrounding area, followed by a brief rest.
In the afternoon, we head to Yacumama Lake—an ancient oxbow lake formed from a former meander of the Madre de Dios River. After a scenic 25-minute drive along the Interoceanic Highway, near the village of Madama, a short 10-minute trail leads us to this hidden gem.
Surrounded by lush rainforest and iconic aguaje palm trees, Yacumama offers the perfect setting for a tranquil paddle canoe ride through its calm waters. As we glide along, take in the rich biodiversity around you—then gear up for a thrilling piranha fishing experience you won't forget.
Return to the lodge with free time until dinner. Overnight at WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge. (L, D)

Day 2
Parrot’s Clay Lick | Sandoval Lake
Early in the morning visit the Parrots clay lick located at 30 minutes from Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios River, then back to the hotel in Puerto Maldonado. After lunch we will leave and travel for thirty minutes on the Madre de Dios River, to the access trail to Lake Sandoval, a beautiful oxbow lake inside Tambopata National Reserve. 3 km hike to the banks of the lake. There we will board a canoe to paddle around the lake enjoying the beauty of the landscape and observing the wildlife, such as kingfishers, herons, hoatzins (unique pre historic looking birds) , monkeys, etc. If we are lucky we could see the family of giant river otters which live at the lake.
The sunset in the lake is amazing and as night falls the rainforest awakens with the sounds of nature. This marks the time to begin our return walk to the Madre de Dios River and head back to our comfortable rooms in Puerto Maldonado. During the night, while cruising back to the hotel we will search for caymans in the Madre de Dios River. The lack of light gives us a good chance to have a stunning view of the southern constellations and the milky way.
After dinner you have free time to visit the city or rest. We can enjoy the pool and its cascade surrounded by the verdant vegetation of the Peruvian Rainforest. Rest of the night free to enjoy the night life of this welcoming city. Night at WASAI Maldonado Hotel. (B, L, D)
