Day 1
Transfer to Wasai Tambopata Lodge | Night Walk
Reception at the airport and transfer to Wasaí Maldonado Ecolodge, where you will receive a tropical welcome juice and a brief explanation of the trip.
Then we will start a trip of approximately two hours to Wasaí Tambopata lodge. The trip is initially carried out by land vehicle for 47km of paved road followed by 17 km of an off-road route that
passes through settler’s farms and primary forests. This road ends in a small port in the Tambopata river where our motorboat will be waiting for us to cruise the Tambopata River downstream for approximately 20 minutes, headed towards Wasaí Tambopata Lodge (Box lunch
on the route). During the journey we will have the opportunity to observe various bird species, hopefully families of capybaras, the world's largest rodents, alligators and other wildlife.
Reception and accommodation at the Lodge. Introductory nocturnal walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see and listen to the insects, bats, frogs, and perhaps some occasional encounter with some nocturnal mammal. Return to the lodge for dinner. We will enjoy divers sounds of the jungle which will accompany our first night in the Amazon. Night at Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. (BL, D).
Day 2
Chuncho Macaw Claylick | Etnobotanical Walk | Cayman Search
Early wake up at 4:30 am to begin with our 60-minute journey upstream to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, if weather permits, we will observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay, an unforgettable experience. We will have breakfast while we wait for the macaws to arrive.
Halfway through the morning we will return to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. Cruising through the Tambopata National Reserve offers the best opportunities to see capybaras, tapirs, monkeys and with luck: jaguars. At your arrival, you can relax in the hammocks or have the chance of swimming in the Tambopata River. Those who wish can go kayaking on the river (*) or go fishing some of the 250 species that inhabit the river.
After lunch, we will make a short ethno botanical walk of 1 km to learn about plants and how they integrate with the ecosystem. You will find out about medicinal plants and other uses that the native communities give them. We can see walking palm trees, sacred lupuna trees, hollow
trees inhabited by ants and more. At nightfall, we embark the boat again to make a nocturnal caiman search. Night at Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. (B, L, D).
(*) Adventure activities such as Kayak and Zip Line, have an additional cost of $ 35.00 per passenger.
Day 3
Back to Puerto Maldonado
You will wake up with the beautiful sunrise of the jungle to leave the lodge. After breakfast you will have free time until transfer to Puerto Maldonado.
Depending on your departure flight you can enjoy our hotel facilities in Puerto Maldonado such as the swimming pool, bar and great views or take a walk in the town to get some souvenirs, as the mainsquare is only one block away from the hotel. (B)
